Reject This Bible!

Ok, so all the sex talk is fun but I also have other important things to talk about. With the elections for president of the US coming up the national freak show also known as the Republican Party has their field of candidates spewing forth their dog whistles and propaganda to rally their base of racists, homophobes, xenophobes, anti-intellectuals, class elitists, and.......devoutly religious christians.

Some of the clowns candidates are trying to be more pious than the others, thinking that the religious base is their ticket to electabilty, and they are openly advocating turning the US into a theocracy (christian, of course). At times it seems to me that the US already is a theocracy, and that the majority of the country is devoutly religious. Polls show that something on the order of %80 of Americans identify as affiliated to a religion, although many of those might be affiliating themselves culturally or not wanting to "out" themselves as doubters, non-believers, or as flat out atheist. Indeed, many people don't even know what the true definition of "atheist" is in the first place, but they hear constantly that atheists are the lowest form of scum on Earth and they certainly don't want to be ostracized for that.

So I found this article on Salon.com that really hits the nail on the head of why I reject Christianity and the book that it is based upon.  Now if there are any "believers" out there who would object to me discrediting the bible based on an article that someone else wrote, know that I have read the bible myself.....cover to cover.....and have thought about and evaluated for myself the meanings and value of the texts. I challenge you to read it linearly, cover to cover, without someone else telling you what things are "supposed" to mean. You will probably find that the god of the bible is petty, mean, vain, sociopathic, and the book reads like a manual about how you are supposed to be obedient to authority.
